Through The Eyes Of A Child

You wonder what little-girl thoughts

Are projecting from these eyes so blue,

Perhaps with just a little imagination

These child-like thoughts may ring true:

“Daddy, I know that you love me

And want to keep me from harm,

Will you always think I’m special

Even when I cause you great alarm?

Will you keep a constant watch over me

When at times I’m afraid of the night,

Chase away the fears of those shadows

Hiding in corners, just out of sight?

Will you always be there for me, Daddy

When the first steps are taken…into life,

Through baby teeth, my crushes, faded dreams,

Will you be there to love away my strife?

I trust you Daddy, because I know

As my father, you’re supposed to be wise.”

As the years go by, she’ll always recall

Unconditional love in her daddy’s eyes.

Now perhaps the words are different

But the questions are still the same,

Her eyes still silently communicate,

If unheeded, who’s really to blame?
