SLAUGHTER OF INNOCENTS

They were nobody in particular

Except to those who loved them.

They were

Male and female,

Young and old,

Rich and poor.

They were going about life

At work,

At school,

At a wedding,

At worship,

At home.

They did not know they were The Enemy.

They had committed no crime,

Nor had they power to change

Anything.

Yet, they were condemned to die

By men claiming to act in God’s name.

Their blood cries to Heaven

Where surely it will be heard

And those who sat in judgment

Will be judged

For the slaughter of innocents.
