Shhh…Don’t Tell Anybody

Who among us don’t have secrets

Concealed so deeply inside?

If others could see what’s hidden there

Our faces we’d want to hide.

Some secrets that, if brought to light,

Would have a detrimental effect

On the lives of those around us that

We’ve pledged to always protect.

Then there are secrets between lovers

Shared in a special look or touch,

No words need to ever be spoken

To show that they’re loved so much.

Secrets can either separate or bind,

Making life either simple or complex,

When one chooses to harbour a secret

He never knows what’ll happen next.

Family and friends think they know us

So well, and yet sometimes it’s true,

They only know what we’ll allow,

Our ‘secrets’ remain hidden from view.

Secrets can be fun at certain times,

At others, downright hard to keep,

Agreement between two may be broken

Then what is sown they’ll now reap.

But secrets will always be with us,

Always have and always will be,

So, ‘mum’s the word’ if by any chance

You share deep dark secrets with me.
