Friendship Lost

I recall that day, as if it was yesterday,
When things did not well start
For on this forsaken day
My friend and I did part.

We had been friends for ages past
Yet we learned to hate
Severing the ties that held fast
Two friends to each other's fate.

We met then as two strangers
Two enemies held at bay
A mockery of friendship
Thus marked the beginning of the fray.

Blame and insults ran unchecked
Between us, that day
Pain and anger reared anew
As, friendship. passed away.

We parted then our separate ways
Each bitter, hurt and sad
Knowing that we'd lost that day
We thought we'd always have.
