The Day That Freedom Died

As a new day dawned throughout our land
With the promise of hope within our hand
We walked the streets with heads held high
Proud of our ways that we lived by
So we were shocked..we were surprised
On the day that freedom died

For that fateful morn did change our life
From one of freedom to one of strife
We raced through the streets so unsure
Of a haven safe or shelter secure
No place to go. no place to hide
On the day that Freedom died

We had no time to contemplate
The "who" or the "why" to debate
As we walked the streets with bowed head
Seeking our missing, fearing them dead
Long we mourned. longer we cried,
On the day that freedom died

While far away in the land of the oppressed
Where the promise of hope is even less
They thronged the streets to celebrate
The death of our innocent and our fate.
Glorifying their "Holy War".. far and wide
On the day that freedom died

But amidst our anguish and our pain
"Old Glory" rose once again
And loud tolled the "Bell" throughout the land
"As a nation in peril, United we Stand,"
Strong is the spirit. stronger the pride
Since the day that freedom died.
