The River Of No Return
The river at the back of my house,
in peaceful times, our paradise.
We bathe in slow ,flowing stream .
We draw water for home use
and watch fish swim.
The river
at the back of my house;
where women spend time
on a raft to wash clothes.
They immerse soapy clothes
and watch dirt float away,
their laughter shrill above the flow.
The river at the back of my house
where we catch fish or crabs
all alive, alive o,
and I fall asleep at your murmuring flow,
On the grass that grows profusely.
Evening comes uninvited .
I see green moss hung from branches .
Every leaf,every flower, every twig
dances its reflection.
Birds bubble
songs of stars and rising moon.
Sing on,pretty ones,
Dusk is here !
The river at the back of my house,
swells after a rainstorm ,
no longer our friend .
We stand far away and watch
it's muddy water rushing
to the sea ! To the sea !
The river in my dream .
flow, flow, flow ,
endlessly
all day long ,
all night long
in a hurry
my river of no return !
