The Dawn
*“Woh Subah kabhi toe aayegi …”
They dazzle the voter with folded hands And toothpaste add wide smiles Humble and subservient they behave With practiced concern in their eyes
How can we aid you they entreat If help us come to power you do not Don’t you realize we are concerned And for your betterment we have fought
They swarm out of their corrupt holes Once every few years to incessantly plead For more power, wealth and autonomy Giving sops that this time they will succeed
And who amongst us wants to step there In that cesspool so deep and murky It is only rats and devils who can survive In that mire and still remain perky
And though there are those handful braves Who work as selfless saviors for our land There are a thousand criminals loose Who win elections with guns in folded hands
But I see not only darkness for us though For even ONE does make a huge difference To fight this monster of poverty and illiteracy Each of us can do our bit, be it small in reference
And an old hindi song rings loud and clear In my head as with a hopeful heart I write Some day that dawn will come for sure And each child in my land shall see it bright…

an old Hindi movie from the 60s which means…
