I know booths will be captured
The electoral process ruptured..
Communal fires will be fanned
Pots of money will exchange hands...
All in the name of democracy!!..

I can see my city being littered
In this war of banners and posters...
Ad agencies will be drafted
To coin slogans well crafted...
All to strengthen democracy!!..
 

I'm aware - criminals and politicians - 2 sides of a coin
Just sly foxes pretending to be lions...
What matters - muscle power, money power!
And I thought it was people's power...
Alas! the death of democracy!!..
 

I understand we need statesmen with vision
But we are saddled with selfish politicians,
The eternal dilemma eating me...
To vote or not to vote
If yes, who do I support?
How to choose between the devil and the deep sea?
Ah! the bane of democracy!!..

I'm confident, we have brains, honesty and integrity too
Yet buffoons do us rule...
Who is responsible for all this mess?
It's both you and I - that's obvious..
Instead of going out to cast our vote
We criticize and sit in air-conditioned comfort
What a perfect democracy!!..

Let the masses do the needful
Cast my vote - that's not fashionable...
If honest, intelligent people don't come out to vote
Then why cry that doomed is our boat?
Integrity and good governance the need of the hour
And soon India can become a super power...
Yes, voting - our duty to democracy!!..
