When I first saw your
resolute face
I knew not, I couldn't tell
hat exactly it was that ailed me.
You stood there, your eyes shone,
all grace round you did hover
and my senses failed me.
Free from sorrow, my
spirits
are not as light as
they seem to you now.
Nor will this beaming smile
that plays on my lips tonight
tomorrow brighten my brow.
Could Fortune tell me
once
how she'd bless me with your love,
could she but name the price
I would pray devoutly
that it were in my power to do -
for I would want to pay thrice.
I would mourn these
hopes
that leave me lonely tonight
if your smiles had left me too.
I'd weep bitterly very time
a friends deceives me, if only
you too were like them - untrue.
Not when I first loved
nor when I lost were you as dear
as now you are to me.
Your wisdon moved my senses then,
but now your truth and virtue
bind my heart to thee.
Those who've loved the
fondest,
the purest - they often have wept
over the dreams they once believed.
But my heart that has slumbered
in yours is happy indeed,
for it was hurt, but not deceived.
Now you shall be all
else to me
that this broken heart can feel
or my senses can successfully feign.
I'll praise, admire and worship you
but I must not, dare not
love again.
