FROM THE START

Do you like horses?
Do you fear death?
Can a cat steel a baby's breath?
Does the sun eclipse the moon?
What bird sings a mournful tune?
Have you ever seen a ghostly Loon?

 If some eventful spirit might
       bequeath an answer true
What question would you ask of him
       such answer then you knew?

How long will I live ?
Have I lived in vane?
Will my ship possess the sea?
Does the devil know my name?

Does my sweetheart care for me
     or is our courtship cold?
Is their life after death?
     Does man possess a soul?

I know no such answers dear
     but live my life to suit
Such answers as man might know
     and knowledge in pursuit
But should eternal wisdom bring
     such truth into my heart
Then where would be the fun of life
      to know all from the start?
