A SAUCY WINK

For AMBY

Upon a breezy autumn day
I stopped to have a drink
And ponder over world affairs,
To weigh just what I think.
The bar, a new but stately place,
    Fit the neighborhood
And had a air of permanence
Which I took to be good.

I had no great expectations
    But there, to my surprise,
An angel’s apparition stood
    In bartender disguise.
Her auburn hair,  to shoulder length,
    Shined like cotton candy
And her jeans, by any means,
    Were nothing short of dandy.

She sashayed to and fro behind
The bar as girls might do
And I relapsed into deep thought …..
    About those jeans of blue.
But most of all, what struck my heart
    Was her smile so divine?
Which cast my chancrous thoughts back to
    A long, forgotten rhyme.

           “ A woman of angel’s device,
She has the power to entice
              The leaves of spring
              To gaily sing
               Of love and paradise.”

As I sipped down a last, long drink,
    I knew I must depart
But I left, with sweet Amby,
The best part of my heart.
No doubt, I shall return again
    To have another drink
And hope she’ll cast my way once more
    A sultry, saucy wink.
