Aaj tuk kyon naa woh dariya badle,
Kul ka ghalib nikamma kiya toone,

Kyon tere shaano pe hokur bekaraar nikle,

Ai muhabbat kyon naa too,

The moon and the stars changed,
Overflowing wine goblets changed,
Lips and the bars changed,
Intoxicating disperser and the goblets changed,
O! love neither you changed,
Nor your influences changed,

Humans and humanity changed,
Abodes of the satans changed,
Crowns and the reigns changed,
Rivers of   times changed,

In remote past you were a river of sorrow,
Why till today that river has not changed,
Yesteryear's Ghalib you reduced to worthlessness,
Today's Gulzaars  you looted so ruthlessly,
Why the lovers' corpses were then, and even now,
