TUMHARA KHAT NAHIN AAYA
YOUR LETTER NEVER CAME

Baat
ek kagaz ke tukde se shuru hui thee
aur ek nayaab ghazal
ke pur-asar sher ki  tarah
"door talaq jaayegee"

Us kagaz ke tukde mein
aisa kya hai
Jisme sihayee mein doobe kutchh harf
Haqeeqtan nazar aate hain
Tumko roo-b-roo paata hoon
Guftgu bhi hoti hai
Aur use dheere se the mod karke
Apni jeb mein rakh leta hoon....

Dheere se .isliye ki
Iski nazakat ka
ehsaas hai mujhko.
Aur ehsaas hota hai
Un tanhaiyon ke lamhon ka
Jinhon nein tumhari
narm kalaee mein
Dard ki kalam pakda kar
Ashqon ki sihayee se
kutchh lafz
Likhwaa diye the...

"tumhara khat nahin aaya"

aur main pareshan hoon
Ki ek kagaz ke tukde par
Aisa kya likh doon..ki
Tumhare hothon par
muskurahat aa jaaye
Tumharee pareshaniyan
badalon ki tarah
Chhant jaye
aur shayad tum dobaara na likho

"Tumhara khat nahin aaya"

isi udhed-bun mein
is kagaz ke tukde ko
dekh raha tha
ki
tumhara khat mila
jisme likha tha
"Tumhara khat nahin aaya
tumhara khyal aaya
tumharee yaad aayee
jo khud na aaya.voh khat
ghamon ka saaman laaya."

main na kehta thaa
ki
"baat door talaq jaayegee"

It started with a small piece of paper
And like a meaningful couplet
Of a famous ghazal
"the talk will go a long way"

wonder what is there
in this piece of paper
that few words soaked in ink
look so real that I find you
facing me. chatting with me
and I quietly fold the piece of
paper and pocket it.....

Quietly
Because I feel that it is so delicate
And also feel the lonely  moments
That place the pen of pain in your soft hands
Writing in the ink of tears..

"Your letter never came"

and I get disturbed
that
what can I write on this piece of paper
that may bring smile to your lips
will dispel your blues like the breeze dispelling
the clouds..
And maybe you may not write
"your letter never came"

I
was looking at the piece of paper
getting perplexed
when I got another note from you
that said.
"your letter did not come
your thoughts came
so did your memories
one that did not come itself..
your letter
brought loads of sorrow.."

Did'nt I tell you
'that it would go a long way"...
