Kavitanjali Chain Poem

Cricket Fever

There was so much tension in the air,

What could the reason be?

Is grandma sick, are the school results out,

Or has baby been bitten by a bee ?

With racing pulse I hastened to find

The cause was none of these three

The reason for all this unseemly fuss was -

Cricket had started on T V !

~ Shanta ~

With knitted brow and bated breath

We wait for the ball to soar free

~ Swati Prasad Siddharth ~

The umpire in his all important role

Watches the ball as it flies...

Over the boundary and into the stalls..

Cameras zoom to capture a thousand smiles!!

"Six" we scream as we jump on the sofa

Mom is staring daggers at us

Homework forgotten, breakfast is cold

She turns off the tv and starts to fuss!!

SWATI CHANDRAN

Hurry up you kids, forget the cricket

Otherwise you will miss the school bus

If you like I will stick it on the tape

Then tonight, when you've done your home work

You can watch it ,even if it's late

~ Tango ~

So the children up to their rooms went

with blocks and lego the day they spent

and the mother now free went back to the telly

watching TNT classics and grace kelly

Vikram C

When all was quiet the kids came creeping down the stairs

There was mum, mouth wide open snoring in her chair

So out to the yard to play cricket the children went

Their boundless energy to release and vent

Tango

I think its time we gave this cricket poem away
I'm sick and tired coming and looking every day
Then finding that nothing has changed
So I hope that a new subject for the chain poem could be arranged

Tango

Sleepless nights, restless days
Dreams of Sachin's century
Nightmares of Shoaib's speed
Cricket has taken a toll on all indeed

Sachin Sourav Rahul is the flavor we savor
Blessings in abundance elders shower
Youngsters heap praises and abuses
It is a game with lot of surprises

Nothing can stop the best
Everything can deter the worst
Hard work and strong will is the crux
Let India lift the trophy of success

~ Inchara ~

But the moment the idiotbox roared loud

Mom jumped awake and was all with the crowd

For though the kids were cricket fans for sure

But mom was the “biggestest” whom none could cure

Wide eyed she sat, eyes glued to the TV

With avid hopes for witnessing Sachin’s century

But for now it was the opposition at play

And Pathan was speeding down his run-up-way

Their opener was young but pretty smart

But no match for our young gifted  Pathan

In swung the first ball and there was a crack

The bales flew high with a resounding thwack!!!

But there was a thwack in our living room too

It was dad’s knee that mom had pounded as if on cue

But unaware, up she jumped and did a merry jig

As if it was her and not the bowler who had done this!!!

~ Glowing Embers ~
