SUDDENLY...

(Bittersweet  and Tabu)

The night was black, the moon was low
an eerie silence pounded my senses so
stumbling awkwardly across this darkish hell
I finally rang your front door-bell...

I was right that moment , living a hell of my own
Fed up with life, friendless and all alone
That knock on the door-shook me out of my gloom
curious and dazed I led you into my room.

Stopping a moment to look in your face
I was struck by your beauty - once again
My heart leapt like it had many years ago
that first prom night when I loved you so
Even though we may now live apart
We could be separate but we'll never part
Who else do I turn to in this hour of doom
with bloody hands, I entered your room...

Gory hands, outlaw on the run ,could this really be you?!
what dark fate has befallen a man so noble and true?
Like Lady Macbeth you wash and scrub ,  in waters icy cold
Heaving a deep sigh I reached back to memories of old.
A night to remember , that beautiful summer of '79
There was magic in the air, our very feelings sublime.
You looked so handsome in the black tuxedo -so fine
My 'baby's -breath ' pinned on your lapel you looked divine
Your corsage I pinned to my bubbling breast, with trembling hands
As the moon shone down benignly at us on the tawny sands.
Hand in hand we glided into the high school hall
Cinderella and Prince Charming of that fairy tale ball
The strains of" somewhere my love ...." romanced the cool night air
Suddenly you pulled me close and buried your face in my hair.
It was in the wee hours of the morn-dancing our last dance
you whispered those magic words as we moved in a trance...

Well never mind about the black tux and bubbling breast
I need a quick drink now and plenty of rest
There's a corpse in the car and she smells quite bad
I used an ice-pick on her - that's all I had
So forget for now the beautiful summer of '79
I'm in a mess as usual for no fault of mine...

Rudely you jerk me back from the rosy past.
So in the role of a murderer life has you cast.
It doesn't make me cringe, shiver or shake
For two summers ago, I too, a life did take.
Come take this shovel and without much sound
Bury the corpse, three feet below the ground
Once done ,enjoy that drink and long rest you so crave
While I say a few prayers for the woman  in the grave...

Now lets not be too hasty with this grave bit
I think your mom's smelling salts might do the trick
What say - let's wake her n ask for a few in number
They could shake Rip Van Winkle out of slumber
Hope she's in good humour these days
I was always terrified of mother-in-law's ways..

Relax, don't you worry about me old mum
In sweet stupor, after her daily peg o rum
As for her moods, she'll surely throw a fit
Seeing your half dead lady, the roof she'll hit.
I'll get them smelling salts , you carry that woman in
If dead she be , you may expiate for your sin...

We're too late, here comes mum
singing bawdy songs, swaying to rum
Nice talking to you, now I'd better hide
She's like a stinger with a few drinks inside
Behind this sofa is where Rambo will be
If she sees me, it's world war three !!

Call yourself Rambo, and from a frail ol' woman hide
All she ever does to you is lovingly chide
For deserting dear daughter , after that lil fight.
As a mother 'reprimand' is her birth right.
Come out of hiding and embrace her without fear
coz meeting her is inevitable if you hang around here.

Oh so its time to nag me with joint forces
Help, I'm being attacked by two wild horses
I've got rights y'know even though I'm a man
hounded by women since all this began
All we need now is the FBI to knock on the door
They'll take care of mom and settle the score..

Chill that attitude hon,  come off your high horse
Now you are at our mercy and we are the boss.
Look momsie dear, hiding here is my runaway hon'
He's gota half-dead girl and is on the run
Should we take him in and help him out ?
After all he's done, I do still love the lout.

I'm dead I'm dead they're after me instead
Wife, FBI, mom-in-law chasing me off the bed
fall with a THUD and with a start I awake
time for office n Rambo's got a train to take
You sure looked good in the summer of '79
Thanks for writing -- let's dream again sometime.

Oh what a dreamer you are , so blessed by the Muse
Every night,  you go wandering in dreams of myriad hues.
Get real! Get ready! or does my lordship want breakfast in bed?
Your fuming Boss just called , you are fired is what he said
Look up the classified , once again go hunting for a new job
Don't you dare dream up wild schemes like some banks to rob!
